Website Update 2024
The website has not been updated for some considerable time. It started over ten years ago to highlight the churches in Leicestershire and Rutland and to give indications on whether they are open or not. I have always been a keen advocate of ‘open churches’, unfortunately Leicestershire had a poor record for this. I have now moved to Lincolnshire and therefore will not complete this project, I am happy to say Lincs...
St John the Baptist Harringworth
Michael McQuade from the Cathedral Walking Group organises walks around the local churches and villages. He recently contacted us regarding an interesting trip to St John the Baptist at Harringworth. “I visited St John the Baptist Church at Harringworth in Rutland yesterday and was amazed at what I found. I picked up a leaflet in the church and used that together with the photographs that I took to put together a document that I...
Restart Spring 2018
After a hiatus of three years we are going to be visiting churches again from this spring. The reason for the three year gap was to concentrate on the business side which has now settled down and allows us more time to continue this project. We do have around ten churches we completed several years ago which we need to add and these will start appearing in next few weeks. We are looking forward in visiting the remaining churches as...
Aerial Surveys of Churches
LeicesterPhoto can now undertake aerial surveys of churches and buildings using UAV’s (drones). We have our ‘permission to fly’ from the CAA, as well as a qualified pilot (BNUCs qualified) and are fully insured. So if you need aerial photographs and video please contact us and we look forward to hearing from you. We can supply this service for weddings. This is a video for Somersby church in Linconshire where we are...
New Cathedral Update
We have returned to the Cathedral at Leicester and updated their 360° tour as below;
Unknown Church – Now Identified
We have had a request from Chris to see if anyone can recognise the church in the background of this picture. It is thought the image dates from the 1950’s and there is some major work on the tower. The tower also has some unusual X shaped tracery in the windows. Of course this may not be a ‘Leicestershire’ church but the lady was from Leicester and any ideas would be most welcome.
Updated ‘Read a Church’ Feature
We have updated our ‘read a church’ feature with a full panoramic 360 tour with pop-ups and info panels. We have used the latest technology in creating this solution for this website. We still have one or two items to add such as gargoyles and carvings but we think we have most area included. https://leicestershirechurches.co.uk/read-a-church/
Richard III
Everyone is probably aware of Leicester’s historic reinterment of King Richard III which starts officially tomorrow with a week of events. The website ‘King Richard in Leicester’ has a great deal of information and you can view the itinerary as well as finding out about the King. We hope to be at one or two of the events this coming week. The picture in the ‘header’ is from Sutton Cheney church the last...
