New Entries Started!
The first brand new entry has gone on-line today for All Saints at Theddingworth. The images were taken in 2012 and I have just written up the text this week. I ‘also’ have around twenty-three churches completed with imagery so I can start to add these. I am also out at Enderby this Friday completing their church. The Rutland entries from the old site have all been moved across and the old site has been...
Spring 2015 – The Restart
After a hiatus of over two years the project of completing all the parish churches in Leicestershire and Rutland continues. I have just been moving the data from the ‘old’ format onto this WordPress site. Rutland’s churches will be moved over in March and the old format site at www.rutlandchurches.co.uk will be deleted. I will set up a redirect for the old site to the new. I had to take a break to concentrate on the...
Church Lead Thefts – What is the Fix?
As many of you are probably aware there have been a spate of lead thefts from Leicestershire churches recently and it was highlighted on BBC East Midlands. A ‘gang’ of thieves have taken lead from Cotebach, Husbands Bosworth, Barrow upon Soar and Loughborough. You can read more here at the BBC site – Leicestershire Church Roofs. These reprehensible acts I hope will result in prosecution, but as in many cases they...
Another Unknown Church
Nick has sent me another image of a church which he cannot locate. Now this one may not be in Leicestershire or Rutland but any help in identifying the church would be appreciated, the ‘doom’ image on the chancel arch should help. If you click on the image you should see a larger version.
Old Church Images
I have been in contact with Nick Miller from Newcastle who has a collection of old images from postcards and photographs of churches in Leicestershire and Rutland. He has kindly given permission for these to be added to the site and I attach a selection below of this excellent resource. Nick says he picks up the images at postcard or ephemera fairs when he has the chance to go, occasionally in second hand book shops or similar....
Unknown Church – Now Known!
We have had a request for help for a ‘unknown’ church which may fall in Leicestershire and Rutland, can any help with its name and location? Hope you don’t mind me contacting you. Amongst some old photographs I have the attached image which is unidentified. To me it has all the hallmarks of an east Leicestershire/Rutland church. However I have not been able to spot it on your site. So maybe it is over the border in...
St Wulframs Virtual 360° Tour
I have just completed a 360° virtual tour of St Wulfram’s church at Grantham. So you can now take a look around this amazing church with the crypt, library, visitor centre, the belfry and views from the tower looking over the town. This technology can really help churches in ‘opening their doors’ to the wider community and is being being used to highlight their ‘Spire Appeal’. You can see some 360° views...
Photo Competition
We are pleased to be helping the Leicestershire Historic Church Trust on their 50th Anniversary. Chris Jones from LeicesterPhoto has a great deal of interest in our church buildings and has completed (nearly 140) churches in Leicestershire and Rutland. He has also been invited to speak at various conferences in the last few years with the Church Tourism Association and The Historic Religious Buildings Alliance with regard to new...
