Website Update 2024
The website has not been updated for some considerable time. It started over ten years ago to highlight the churches in Leicestershire and Rutland and to give indications on whether they are open or not. I have always been a keen advocate of ‘open churches’, unfortunately Leicestershire had a poor record for this.
I have now moved to Lincolnshire and therefore will not complete this project, I am happy to say Lincs churches are mostly open.
Although we were thinking of closing the site in June 2024 we have received many kind emails asking us to continue the site. We will therefore keep the site live for the foreseeable future.
We would still like to see the rest of the churches completed so if there is anyone willing to take on the task please contact me.

So sad to hear that you will be closing the website. I wish that we had found it before we tramped around in the rain in October 2023 looking for the church. Wish we had found the churchyard. Bagworth looked quite economically depressed and probably not at all like the place my great-grandmother was born and raised.
We were hoping to find some traces of the Dowell Family and the Crowshaw-Harris ancestors.
Hope to go back one day (we live in Canada).
Thanks for making a useful and helpful website.
Best of everything for your future endevours.

Very sorry to learn that you will be closing the website. It has been a regular and valuable reference point for me in my challenge to visit and find out something about all the villages in Leicestershire (https://jembenson.substack.com/p/leicestershire-villages-a?utm_source=profile&utm_medium=reader2). I hope you will be able to at least archive the material here so all your hard work is not lost for good?

Really sad to hear this. For some years now I’ve enjoyed using your website to choose local churches to visit and would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the excellent work you’ve done over the years. I wonder if you could possibly archive the website so that it could be accessed in some way? (Though I have no idea how this could be done.) Would a drive to raise some funds be possible? Nevertheless many, many thanks for the really wonderful work.

Thank you for keeping this site open. I came across it by chance but it has helped to make visits to the churches of the area so much more illuminating and rewarding. I hope it can continue to be an inspiration to myself and others for the future. I’m very grateful for all the knowledge you’ve shared. it’s much appreciated.
